"Newton

Some bathroom designs are created to complement their surroundings. Others become the defining feature of the entire space. The Newton Bathtub by Boca do Lobo belongs to the latter category, transforming an everyday ritual into an experience shaped by sculpture, materiality, and bold contemporary design. Developed in partnership with Maison Valentina, it brings together futuristic forms and classical references, creating a statement piece that challenges the traditional idea of a bathtub.

The Beauty of Spherical Forms

""

The defining feature of Newton is its striking arrangement of spherical elements. Inspired by the visual language of atoms and molecular structures, the design creates the impression of an artistic composition in motion. Glossy black and gold spheres surround the bathtub, introducing a sense of rhythm and depth while giving the piece its unmistakable sculptural identity. The result is a design that feels almost architectural, bringing an unexpected dimension to bathroom interiors.

A Dialogue Between Black and Gold

""

The contrast between black and gold plays an essential role in Newton’s character. Its glossy black lacquered spheres create a dramatic exterior, while gold plated details introduce warmth and luminosity. At the centre, the bathtub itself is made from cast iron with a gold painted finish, revealing a rich golden interior. This combination of reflective surfaces and contrasting tones gives the design a distinctive presence, allowing it to interact with light and its surroundings.

The Art of Metalwork

""

Behind Newton’s expressive appearance lies a demanding approach to material craftsmanship. The design incorporates metal casting, a traditional process in which molten metal is poured into carefully prepared moulds to achieve its final shape. Fibreglass and lacquered spherical elements complete the structure, while the cast iron bathtub provides a substantial foundation. Handmade in Portugal, the piece reflects Boca do Lobo’s interest in combining traditional production techniques with experimental design. (Boca do Lobo)

A Statement for Contemporary Bathrooms

""

Measuring 180 centimetres in width, 90 centimetres in depth, and 80 centimetres in height, Newton is designed to command attention. Its generous proportions and distinctive silhouette make it particularly suited to spacious master bathrooms, where it can become the focal point of the entire interior. Paired with restrained architectural finishes, sculptural lighting, and carefully selected accessories, the bathtub creates a striking contrast between the functionality of the space and the artistic character of its centrepiece.

A New Perspective on Bathing

""

Ultimately, the Newton Bathtub represents a more expressive approach to bathroom design, one in which functional objects can become works of art. Its futuristic geometry, dramatic black and gold palette, and intricate material composition give it a personality that extends far beyond its practical purpose. By reimagining the traditional bathtub as a sculptural statement, Boca do Lobo creates a design that brings a new sense of drama and individuality to the contemporary bathroom.
