AIA announces the top 10 winning residential architecture\u00a0projects of 2017<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This year\u2019s winning\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>residential architecture projects<\/em><\/strong> include a Swiss chalet-inspired townhome in California and luxurious student lofts in Missouri!<\/p>\n

The\u00a0American Institute of \u00a0Architects Housing<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>recently announced the winners of this year\u2019s housing program, and we certainly couldn\u2019t stop staring at the few\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>house designs<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>that were selected.<\/p>\n

The main goal of this program is to promote the importance of good housing as a necessity of life, sharing the top residential\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>architecture<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0projects across the\u00a0United States<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Blue Lake Retreat,\u00a0Texas<\/h3>\n

Designed by\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Lake Flato<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>the \u2018blue lake retreat\u2019 rises vertically with its steep hillside topography. The residence comprises three stores and is defined by its framed structure and oversized, asymmetric timber roof. Stunning!<\/p>\n

Los Altos Residence,\u00a0California<\/h3>\n

Nestled among neighboring houses and a variety of mature trees, this\u00a0luxury<\/strong>\u00a0home<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0plan and form is designed to create a private world as respite from the dense suburban community. It was designed by\u00a0Bohlin Cywinski Jackson<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Sawmill,\u00a0California<\/h3>\n

The creators of this\u00a0architecture<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>masterpiece by\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>American Institute of Architects<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>was set in the harsh high desert of California, Sawmill<\/em> <\/strong>is a family retreat embedded into the tough, scrubby landscape. Shaped by the challenges and opportunities of the remote site, Sawmill<\/strong> <\/em>is self-sufficient and durable!<\/p>\n

Stellar Residences, California<\/h3>\n

Modern, progressive interpretations of the mountain\u00a0luxury home<\/strong><\/em>, the\u00a0Stellar Residences<\/strong><\/em>, designed by renowned\u00a0Bohlin Cywinski Jackson<\/em><\/strong>, are energy-smart and design-intelligent, with floor-to-ceiling windows for spectacular views and generous indoor and outdoor spaces for bringing families closer together.<\/p>\n

Roxbury E+, Massachusetts<\/h3>\n

Interface Studio Architects<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0designed the unique Roxbur<\/strong><\/em>y house for\u00a0Boston\u2019s Energy Plus (E+) Green Building Program.\u00a0The architectural character was influenced by the local vernacular of the immediate neighborhood, including clapboard siding in an array of colors, pitched roofs and large bay windows. An inverted bay connected the project to its context, and was critical to performance-based innovation.<\/p>\n

Hunters View Housing Blocks 5&6, California<\/h3>\n

These two new blocks of affordable family housing at\u00a0Hunters View<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>are part of the first phase of San Francisco\u2019s ambitious HOPE SF program to rebuild the worst of San Francisco\u2019s deteriorated, crime-ridden public housing. With a mix of affordable and market-rate housing, the Hunters View<\/strong> <\/em>Redevelopment is being completed in three phases in order to allow the existing tenants to remain in the neighborhood. It was designed by\u00a0Paulett Taggart Architects<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Powerhouse, Pennsylvania<\/h3>\n

Designed by AIA<\/em><\/strong>, the\u00a0<\/strong>Powerhouse<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>carefully fits a dense cluster of 31 units into\u00a0Philadelphia\u2019s Francisville neighborhood fabric, providing single family townhomes, duplexes, and two small apartment buildings that meet the needs and budgets of residents with a wide variety of living options at a range of prices.<\/p>\n

Student Lofts at Washington University, Missouri<\/h3>\n

Developed by\u00a0Washington University in St. Louis<\/strong><\/em>, Missouri, the\u00a0Lofts of Washington University<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>is a student housing and retail mixed-use project. It currently provides off-campus housing for 414 undergraduate students in four buildings in the Delmar Loop, a vibrant commercial corridor a half mile from the main university campus. The Lofts\u2019 distinctive pedestrian mews offers a new linkage between the neighborhood\u2019s residential and commercial areas. Besides, its\u00a0design<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is beyond this world.<\/p>\n

\"Architecture<\/a><\/p>\n

Heartland Family Works, Nebraska<\/h3>\n

This specialty housing location offers four and six month residential substance abuse treatment programs. The\u00a0designers<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>used a contrast of warm colors and textures to complement the cool palette of the concrete.<\/p>\n

The Six, Los Angeles<\/h3>\n

Located near the\u00a0MacArthur Park<\/strong><\/em>, the Six residence\u00a0<\/em>features energy efficient amenities that exceed standard practice. This Housing project consists of 52 units and provides home, support services to homeless and disabled veterans. \u00a0An outstanding architecture project to be honest.<\/p>\n
