First of all, did you know what is Vancouver Design Week (VDW)<\/strong>? It is a collaborative platform, a call to action and an invitation to us all to immerse in design and its transformative potential. VDW<\/strong>\u2019s city-wide festival connects and celebrates our city\u2019s creative capital through a week-long program of design events and experiences.<\/p>\n

Last year, VDW featured 111 programs and events<\/strong> which explored the theme of \u201cImpact<\/strong>.\u201d Over 7 days, more than 380 designers showcased innovative work, convened workshops and talks, and organized activations and exhibitions to connect with the community.<\/p>\n

This year, the strategy for VDW is not to grow bigger, but deeper \u2013 engaging the designers<\/strong> of our community to co-direct and co-curate a more potent program which challenges our thinking and ideas about design<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Vancouver Design Week team believes\u00a0in the problem-solving capabilities of designers<\/strong>. Regardless of their specialization, they are essential in shaping a better future. VDW offers a city-wide platform (which extends to satellite communities within Metro Vancouver) to connect, educate, and inspire\u2014empowering individual and collective agency.<\/p>\n

A curiosity: Vancouver Design Week is an initiative of Vancouver Design Foundation (VDF) \u2013 <\/strong><\/em>a non-profit organization which works to further Vancouver region\u2019s design value and impact while helping to define our authentic design identity<\/strong>. They reinforce the city\u2019s design ecosystem<\/strong> and focus on four key areas: social innovation<\/strong>, creativity<\/strong> and culture<\/strong>, the built environment<\/strong>, and public engagement<\/strong>. They deliver partner-funded programs and campaign to raise awareness of the value of design.<\/p>\n

From hosting an event to volunteering to showcasing leadership in your sector with a sponsorship, there are many ways you can bring your ingenuity and passion to Vancouver Design Week. Designers and creatives<\/strong> from across disciplines are invited to participate in our core programming areas. We are all impacted by design every day. VDW<\/strong>\u2019s mission is to increase awareness of and appreciation for design, design process<\/strong> and the pervasive impact design has on important social and cultural issues; and to create an informed, inclusive (and inspiring!) participatory platform for engaging them.<\/p>\n
