The supermodel<\/strong> <\/em>may not post as many photos of her house on Instagram as her famous siblings, but she has made up for it by sharing a tour of the stunning residence in the latest issue of\u00a0Architectural Digest<\/em> <\/strong>\u2013 and it\u2019s well worth the wait. Kendall Jenner\u2019s\u00a0design team\u2014the mother-and-son duo\u00a0Kathleen<\/strong> and Tommy Clements<\/strong>, plus the inimitable\u00a0Waldo Fernandez<\/strong>\u2014didn\u2019t know quite what to expect from their 24-year-old superstar client. \u201cHer taste was surprising, more bohemian and funky than the rest of her family. The mood she described was totally understated and down-to-earth,\u201d<\/em> Tommy recalls of the team\u2019s initial meetings with Jenner, reportedly the highest-paid model in the world. \u201cBeing who she is, we thought Kendall might gravitate toward something more flashy, more va-va-voom. I think we were all thrilled to discover that she has taste beyond her years,\u201d<\/em> adds Kathleen. Fernandez punctuates the sentiment: \u201cThere are plenty of people we know who have traveled extensively and been exposed to so much but don\u2019t absorb anything. Kendall is different. She takes everything in and is confident about the things that resonate with her,\u201d<\/em> he says.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like a house that has character. When I walked into this place, I was immediately drawn to the peaceful Spanish-y, farmhouse-y vibe,\u201d<\/em> Jenner notes, nicely summing up the hybridized, pan-Mediterranean architecture<\/strong> that proliferates in Los Angeles. \u201cMy life involves a lot of chaos and travel and high energy, so I wanted a home that feels serene, a place where I can simply zone out and relax,\u201d<\/em> she continues.<\/p>\n

Jenner made few structural changes to the existing architecture<\/strong>, instead of repurposing two of the five bedrooms<\/strong> into a pair of proper glam<\/strong> and fitting rooms<\/strong>. The living room<\/strong> perhaps best epitomizes the young model\u2019s predilection for warm, organic textures,<\/strong> earthy tones<\/strong>, and eminently comfortable furnishings<\/strong>. With a cozy fireplace<\/strong> anchoring one end of the space, two broad sofas<\/strong>, stocked with a range of pillows<\/strong> in vintage textiles<\/strong>, offer ample room for visiting friends and family. \u201cI\u2019m not a huge party person. There aren\u2019t a lot of ragers going on here,\u201d<\/em> Jenner says of her entertaining style. \u201cI like turning on music, lighting the fireplace and candles, and watching NBA games with my friends.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Cooking<\/strong>, too, is an essential part of the Jenner hosting program. \u201cThis house has prompted me to spend more time in the kitchen. I\u2019m always in there trying to up my chef game. At this point, I\u2019m a pretty good cook,\u201d<\/em> she avows. \u201cKylie\u00a0and I were super-lucky to have guidance from our older sisters and a mom who really has her s**t together. They all gave me solid advice on how to set up my kitchen and bath for maximum efficiency. They also taught me that a house is always a work in progress,\u201d<\/em> she adds, referring to her siblings Kim, Kourtney<\/strong>, and Khlo\u00e9 Kardashian<\/strong>, as well as her high-powered mother, Kris Jenner<\/strong>, the matriarch of the clan.<\/p>\n

In contrast to the subdued palette of the furniture<\/strong> and finishes<\/strong>, Jenner\u2019s collection of contemporary art<\/strong>\u2014which includes works by Barbara Kruger, Richard Prince, Raymond Pettibon<\/strong>, and Sterling Ruby<\/strong>\u2014adds some serious jolts of color to the mix. Just off the entry, a signature James Turrell<\/strong> ovoid wall sculpture, animated by shifting, computer-programmed LED lights, greets visitors with a dreamy chromatic display. \u201cI\u2019ve always been a huge Turrell fan. I was introduced to his work by [my brother-in-law] Kanye [West], who collaborates with him,\u201d<\/em> Jenner explains. \u201cI wanted this piece to be a focal point of the house, and I\u2019m so hyped to have it here.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Wilde<\/strong><\/a> is a beautifully designed\u00a0vanity\u00a0wall mirror<\/strong>. It features three panels and an irregular shape with a golden strap of plated brass that evokes a\u00a0mid-century modern style<\/strong>\u00a0while adding a hint of re\ufb01nement to any interior. It can be hanged above a sideboard or a console and still give that\u00a0retro<\/strong>\u00a0look\u00a0to your living room.<\/p>\n

Although Jenner confesses that she\u2019s still new to the contemporary art world<\/strong>, Fernandez emphasizes that her interest is far from superficial. \u201cKendall wasn\u2019t just checking off names on a list or blindly following the advice of an adviser. She picked things that meant something to her, things she had a gut reaction to,\u201d<\/em> the designer notes.<\/p>\n

In the sitting area of her bedroom, a Tracey Emin neon sculpture<\/strong> faces off unexpectedly with a pair of 18th-century Italian painted door panels<\/strong>. \u201cI grew up with those panels in the various homes we lived in. I asked for them when my mom was cleaning out one of her storage spaces. They bring me back to my childhood,\u201d<\/em> Jenner says. Nostalgia notwithstanding, the designers weren\u2019t immediately convinced about the suitability of the doors. \u201cWe all gave each other this \u2018I don\u2019t know\u2019 look because they didn\u2019t seem to fit in. But when the room finally came together, we loved how it turned out. It\u2019s really a testament to Kendall\u2019s eye,\u201d<\/em> Tommy insists.<\/p>\n

The Koi bathtub<\/strong><\/a> features an aged brushed brass base<\/strong> resembling the scales pattern of the Japanese Koi carp<\/strong>. The contrived patina iron tub<\/strong> has an oval shape and a curved lip, making it the perfect resting spot for your head. The name of this contemporary bathtub<\/strong> and the Japanese word for love are homophones making the carp a symbol of love and affection.<\/p>\n

For Jenner, who has spoken publicly about her battle with anxiety and panic attacks, the panels, like the arts-and-crafts room she installed in the home\u2019s erstwhile home theatre, are simply one more facet of her efforts to fashion a soothing refuge from the hurly-burly of her professional life under the harsh spotlight of runway shows and paparazzi. \u201cI\u2019m really proud of what we accomplished here. This is the first home I\u2019ve done completely, and I think it\u2019s a genuine reflection of who I am and what I like,\u201d <\/em>she says. \u201cIn the end, I\u2019m still a young female in L.A., just trying to have some fun.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
