Today we bring you all the deets at the London Design Festival. This year is the 18th edition and despite all, is taking place in a year unlike any other. With the mission to give voice to the design community, the festival will go on until the 20th of September. Welcome to the \u00a02020 London Design Festival and we hope you enjoy it.<\/p>\n

London Design Festival was created by John Sorrell and Ben Evans to promote the city\u2019s creativity and will take place from 12-20 September. Through online connections, labs, and new products, this year\u2019s edition promises to be the same we are all used to.<\/p>\n

9 DESIGNERS, 1 WORKSHOP<\/h3>\n

The onset of Covid-19 has significantly changed the way people live, interact, and work. In the design world, creatives and makers have had to adapt their processes using new technologies to work together at a distance and often operating from new, improvised home offices.<\/p>\n

The designers involved in Connected are Ini Archibong (Switzerland), Maria Bruun (Denmark), Jaime Hayon (Spain), Heatherwick Studio (UK), Sebastian Herkner (Germany), Maria Jeglinska-Adamczewska (Poland), Sabine Marcelis (Netherlands), Studiopepe (Italy) and Studio Swine (UK \/ Japan).
\nThese nine exciting solutions will all be displayed together virtually, and then exhibited at the Design Museum in Autumn, celebrating the act of coming back together \u2013 reconnecting \u2013 after lockdown.<\/p>\n

2020 Landmark Projects<\/h3>\n

London-based architecture practice Studio Weave, supported by Lendlease and LCR, will create The Hothouse, a large-scale installation located at International Quarter London (IQL). And because you can\u2019t have a design festival without some workshops, pop-up stores, and landmarks around the city, make sure to pass by and check out this creation, with all the safety measures you can.<\/p>\n

GLOBAL DESIGN FORUM<\/h3>\n

Global Design Forum is the London Design Festival\u2019s curated thought leadership program, celebrating design and the minds shaping it\u2019s the future. Taking place throughout the Festival, the Forum features a unique mix of talks, keynotes, conversations, and workshops that together reflects the most innovative thinking in the world of design today.<\/p>\n

Speakers from all corners of the global design community share new perspectives on designing for a shifting future. From thinking in a post-pandemic world and digital futures to the power of AI and our environment, the Global Design Forum informs and inspires audiences annually.<\/p>\n

\nWILL PRESENT FOCUS\/20 IN AN EXCITING
\nNEW FORMAT<\/h3>\n

Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour will present Focus\/20 in a new hybrid format. Recalibrated this year, it will provide a creative and commercial platform for 120 international showrooms to present their new collections. It kickstarts with a virtual launch on Sunday 13 September. From Monday 14 to Friday 18 September, there will be tailored visits for trade professionals only, while an online program every day aims to spark everyone\u2019s imagination and curiosity by reaching out to a wider global audience.<\/p>\n

VIRTUAL DESIGN DESTINATION

This year the Virtual Design Destination by Adorno will be the place to discover curated country collections of collectible design during the London Design Festival. Working with Adorno\u2019s roster of twenty-six international curators from design scenes across the globe, Adorno will present fifteen country pavilions virtually during the event, launching two collections per day over seven days.<\/p>\n

As a native, digital e-commerce platform, Adorno, from its base in Copenhagen has been working for the last six months to harness the very best in tech. All real-world pieces from each collection will be modeled three-dimensionally and set in a virtual environment designed to reflect the design scene from which they hail \u2013 think gaming rather than room sets.<\/p>\n

The theme for this year\u2019s Virtual Design Destination by Adorno will be \u201cThe New Reality\u201d. Curators have been working with 5\u201310 local designers at the intersection of craft and design to develop sub-narrative to this theme with some very interesting takes already emerging.<\/p>\n
