Matthew Monroe Bees (Charleston, South Carolina)<\/h3>\n

\u00a9 Gavin McIntyre<\/p>\n

\u201cA room doesn\u2019t seem complete to me unless it has an English secretary,\u201d<\/em> says Bees (pictured at home). That being said, this star\u2019s take on Anglo-American traditions<\/strong> is spirited rather than reverential. His debut room at Manhattan\u2019s 2019 Kips Bay Designer Show House<\/strong> turned heads with its hodgepodge of choice Southern antiques<\/strong>, a contemporary abstract painting<\/strong> hung on a Gracie chinoiserie screen<\/strong>, and, of all things, a marijuana plant wrought in shining brass. \u201cI\u2019d rather be thought of as a collector than a designer,\u201d<\/em> Bees adds. \u201cWe all like so much, so we put it all into a space and it works. And all colors can play nice together.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Winnow table lamp<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0takes its name from the winnowing method, an ancient technique of separating grain from the straw. Its body is composed of small\u00a0lacquer wood tubes<\/strong>, representing the straw, and the\u00a0abat-jour shade<\/strong>\u00a0emerges from the base with a light\u00a0tapioca fabric<\/strong>, separating distinctively from its rigid body.<\/p>\n

\u00a9 Netflix<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything in a room should be essential, and the space should have a story, with furnishings and art pulled from what the clients enjoy or what has been passed down to them.\u201d<\/em> Inspired by sources ranging from the intellectual interiors of the Harlem Renaissance<\/strong> (Bolden) to world travel<\/strong>, especially Morocco<\/strong> (Curtis), JSN\u2019s interiors possess a clarity that is as much about the objects as about the space that frames them, with palettes that are crucially curated. As Bolden explains, \u201cA house should hug the people who live in it. Even when it\u2019s glamorous, it should feel as casual as possible.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Aliz\u00e9e Brion (Miami)<\/h3>\n

\u201cI sort of fell into interior design by chance,\u201d<\/em> says Brion (pictured at a Miami project). After receiving her master\u2019s in architecture from Columbia University, the French-born talent landed her first job working for an architecture studio<\/strong> that was, at the time, collaborating on a project with Philippe Starck,<\/strong> whose attention to detail would shape Brion\u2019s perspective. \u201cSeeing that process was probably the biggest influence in my work today.\u201d<\/em> Since founding her firm, Light on White<\/strong>, in 2016, Brion has gravitated toward a minimalist aesthetic<\/strong>, mixing antiques<\/strong> and contemporary finds<\/strong> in a range of projects. \u201cBuy less and buy better,\u201d<\/em> she muses, reflecting on the future of design.<\/p>\n

Guided by site and context, Hunter\u2019s incisive eye lends a sense of history and gravitas to modern, white-box spaces while animating traditional rooms with a vivid, contemporary spirit<\/strong>. Five years ago, he opened Tienda X<\/strong>, an experimental Houston gallery of art and design, with architect Michael Landrum,<\/strong> a frequent collaborator who shares his office. After moving the boutique a few years later to Austin, where much of their work is located, Hunter and Landrum recently transplanted Tienda X from the Lone Star State to a 1920s early Regency-style residence<\/strong> in the Whitley Heights<\/strong> neighborhood of L.A.<\/p>\n

Forbes Masters (Atlanta)<\/h3>\n

It could have been awkward. When Monet Masters<\/strong> (above, left) hit a roadblock on her first big job, the client called in Tavia Forbes<\/strong> as backup. Instead, the designers hit it off. \u201cWe were about the same age, both Jamaican, and we both had this eclectic, quirky style,\u201d<\/em> recalls Masters, who soon returned the favor, helping Forbes complete a rush office design for a movie executive in just a week. By 2016, they were officially in business together, building an impressive list of clients (Real Housewives of Atlant<\/em>a star Kandi Burruss,<\/strong> NFL players Josh Bynes<\/strong> and Bobby Rainey<\/strong>) with bold, personality-driven interiors<\/strong>, among them a glam, purple-lacquer karaoke room for Burruss\u2019s poolhouse.<\/p>\n

Craig<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is an\u00a0oval\u00a0mid-century modern<\/strong> coffee table that carries an uncompromised retro style and strong presence. It boasts a Green Guatemala marble top<\/strong>, supported by a stainless steel structure<\/strong> in a brass finish<\/strong> with a low shelf for storage. A perfect centerpiece\u00a0that brings a modern approach to its design.<\/p>\n

Carmeon Hamilton (Memphis)<\/h3>\n

When it comes to boho interiors<\/strong> by Hamilton\u2014a self-styled \u201cenvironmental curator\u201d\u2014it\u2019s a jungle in there. \u201cPlants are a super-identifiable part of my aesthetic, but the foundation is always modern and clean-lined,\u201d<\/em> says the rising star, who got her start in the health-care industry, a job that demanded wellness-conscious furnishings<\/strong>, palettes<\/strong>, and, yes, plants<\/strong>. (She is pictured at home in Memphis.) \u201cUnless you\u2019re totally negligent, plants will thrive, and their presence proves that you\u2019re living in your world rather than just looking at it\u2014funny how that works.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Being a matinee idol,\u00a0Bogarde<\/strong>\u00a0soon became a giant in the\u00a0high-rank intellectual cinema<\/strong>. That\u2019s the reason for this inspiring\u00a0accent armchair<\/strong>. It is finished in\u00a0leather<\/strong>, a very\u00a0popular fabric in the 60\u2019s, and the\u00a0swivel polished brass base<\/strong>\u00a0conveys an idea of\u00a0style and playfulness. It can make a great\u00a0occasional chair<\/strong>\u00a0for the\u00a0home <\/strong>or office<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Noz Nozawa (San Francisco)<\/h3>\n

\u00a9 Nicole Morrison<\/p>\n

\u201cLife is more beautiful and more livable when nothing is perfect,\u201d<\/em> says Nozawa, who founded her firm, Noz Design<\/strong>, in 2014. \u201cI like deliberate imperfection, deliberate asymmetry, and messing things up a bit.\u201d <\/em>Non-Western design traditions<\/strong> are an aesthetic constant. Communal heated\u00a0kotatsu\u00a0tables<\/strong> that Nozawa has seen on trips to her ancestral Japan<\/strong> (her family emigrated to California in the 1890s) are echoed in groovy conversation pits, while West African<\/strong> and East African objects<\/strong> and artifacts<\/strong> are infiltrating her eclectic vocabulary too. \u201cI\u2019m a huge nerd,\u201d<\/em> the designer says. \u201cI hope I\u2019m always bewildered by something.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
