The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fourseasons.com\/newyork\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"\">Four Seasons<\/a> in Manhattan, the iconic Modernist dining room in the Seagram\u2019s Building, will receive a Design Icon Award at the \u00a026th annual James Beard Foundation Awards Gala, taking place on Monday, May 2, 2016, at Lyric Opera of Chicago.<\/p>\n<p><strong>See also:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.covethouse.eu\/interior-design-trends-for-2016-from-kelly-hoppen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"\">Interior Design Trends For 2016 From Kelly Hoppen<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-30125 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.covethouse.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/3-1.jpg\" alt=\"NYC\u2019S FOUR SEASONS RESTAURANT WINS JAMES BEARD DESIGN AWARD\" width=\"690\" height=\"387\"><\/p>\n<p>The space, which opened in 1958, was designed by Philip Johnson and Mies van der Rohe for their client, design director Phyllis Bronfman Lambert. Featuring flatware and glassware by Ada Louise and L. Garth Huxtable and furniture by Mies van der Rohe, the space has become a design icon\u2014the Museum of Modern Art features more than 100 of the restaurant\u2019s elements in their permanent design collection\u2014and helped elevate the concept of American fine dining.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-30124 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.covethouse.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2-1.jpg\" alt=\"NYC\u2019S FOUR SEASONS RESTAURANT WINS JAMES BEARD DESIGN AWARD\" width=\"690\" height=\"383\"><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an honor to award The Four Seasons Restaurant the first ever James Beard Foundation Design Icon Award,\u201d said James Biber, chair of the Restaurant Design Awards Committee, in a statement. \u201cIn introducing generations of diners to modern elegance and luxury, The Four Seasons forever changed restaurant design, even as it remained virtually unchanged itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-30123 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.covethouse.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/1-1.jpg\" alt=\"NYC\u2019S FOUR SEASONS RESTAURANT WINS JAMES BEARD DESIGN AWARD\" width=\"690\" height=\"458\"><\/p>\n<p>Sadly, the award comes at what may be the end of the restaurant\u2019s life (though it is an interior landmark, which limits future changes). Owner Aby Rosen has stated that she will allow\u00a0renovations of the space when the lease runs out in July.
