The incredible welcoming concept with Scandinavian Design<\/strong><\/em> kitchen you\u2019re about to see wasn\u2019t always that lovely and that stylish. In fact, when a young couple purchased their modern Craftsman-style home in Georgetown, Texas, they knew they would need to give the appointed kitchen and the adjacent living room a complete makeover.<\/p>\n

Designer Matt Tsang helped the couple create an open kitchen that now incorporates an eye-catching backsplash, natural components and mixed metals for warmth and depth.<\/p>\n

The updated color palette includes light gray walls, a white ceiling and a beautiful tile backsplash in a soft sea-glass hue. The base of the island has a rich gray color that helps attach the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe brass knobs added a glam warmth to space, and they work perfectly with the backsplash,\u201d Tsang says. \u201cAdding that detail helps the room avoid feeling flat with all those cabinets on the back wall.\u201d<\/p>\n

A wood-look porcelain tile floor offers stability and warm tones. The tile extends into the living room, which was previously carpeted.<\/p>\n

Tsang destroyed the previous kitchen, pantry and laundry area to create a more efficient floor plan. Removing the old peninsula and pony wall allowed him to extend the kitchen to the former breakfast nook and open it more to the living room.<\/p>\n

The updated living room\u2019s style is transitional, with two brown leather club chairs, a gray sofa, a brass coffee table with an oval stay and claw feet, and a handwoven gray area rug. \u201cIt\u2019s such an open concept, the spaces had to really play off one another,\u201d Tsang says. \u201cThey\u2019re now truly the heart of the home.\u201d<\/p>\n
