Toronto Dominion Centre

More than any other, this project marked the emergence of B+H—formerly Bregman + Hamann Architects—at the forefront of commercial architecture practice in the 1960s. Located in the heart of Toronto’s financial district, the Toronto-Dominion Centre (TD Centre) symbolized Toronto’s new status as a major city and established a new standard for office buildings in Canada.

Shangri-La Toronto

The second Shangri-La in North America following the acclaimed location in Vancouver, this 5-star luxury hotel occupies the first seventeen stories of a hotel and residential tower on University Avenue – a major artery in downtown Toronto. Offering guests breathtaking views of the city, a stay at Shangri-La Toronto offers luxury accommodations for guests traveling for business and pleasure in Canada’s largest metropolis.

University of Toronto Jackman Law Building

The main building of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law needed a major overhaul. Unable to provide the space required for students both within the context of classes and extracurricular activities, the final design for this new home of law was established through a design competition. Partway through the design process, it became apparent that the available budget wouldn’t cover construction costs. B+H was asked to join the team to partner with the design architect and collaborate with the firm to find ways to reduce the costs involved in construction and complete the building while honoring the original design and its most distinctive features and forms.

University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law Landscape + Public Realm Renewal

Designed in collaboration with Hariri Pontarini Architects, the new Jackman Law Building provides the school with much-needed additional space in an iconic new home. The landscape design created by B+H Planning and Landscape complements this new building and creates separate and distinct entries with a street entrance fronting onto iconic Queen’s Park and a secluded entry branching from the surrounding university campus stemming from historic Philosopher’s Walk. The campus entry incorporates a series of social amenities including small nodes for gathering, formal seating, and an informal courtyard to contribute to an inspiring campus experience for faculty staff, students, and public passersby.

Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre

The Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (TPASC) is one of the first facilities in Canada to contain two 50-meter pools (a competition pool and an adjustable-depth training pool), as well as a fully equipped, 5-meter-deep dive tank that provides up to eight lanes for practice swimming. This massive complex—the largest single investment in Canadian amateur sport history—also contains a field house that boasts a fitness area, running track, climbing wall and sports medicine clinic, along with a gymnasium large enough to accommodate four basketball courts or six volleyball courts.

PCL Toronto District Office

After 25 years in their Greater Toronto Area operations office, PCL Constructors Canada Inc. (Toronto) decided it was time to renovate their home base to reflect how their business and industry have evolved. They were ready to invest in a space that would sustain PCL well into the future. The client wanted their new office space to help them work differently as an organization. They identified the need for a more collaborative workplace environment – one that focuses more on employee integration, engagement, and the sharing of information and technology while showcasing raw elements of construction.
