7 New Faces For Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens Unveiled
Did you think gardens had nothing to do with design? Well, in Edinburgh, they do! 7 new faces for Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens just got unveiled. The Scottish city shortlisted 7 projects for the Gardens’ Ross Bandstand pavilion design, willing to invest £25 million to make a more welcoming area out of this landmark. Worldwide agencies submitted their designs; let’s check out the 7 finalists!

Bearing the cultural and social functions of the pavilion in mind, William Matthews Associates and Sou Fujimoto Architects suggest an arrangement or stairways, in a spiral that pays tribute to Scottish culture by reminding of the stone circles of Orkney. A nice complement to the gorgeous castle surrounding the Gardens!

American firm wHY chose to focus on showcasing Princes Street Gardens‘ beautiful nature. Situated in the heart of the city, the Gardens bring a welcome space of greenery this projects offers to emphasize.

The project by Adjaye Associates finds inspiration in Ross Bandstand‘s initial architectural style and iconic aspect.

The pavilion design suggested by Danish company Bjarke Ingels Group embraces the natural curves of the earth and sky, and modernizes the ensemble.

Reminding of Nor’ Loch, that used to exist where the Gardens now stand, the project by Page Parl Architects features a welcoming performance stage and a visitor center in a grotto- and spring-like design.

The London compay Flanagan Lawrence plays the adaptability and constrast card with a pavilion design that can accomodate several types and scales of events, while being perfectly integrating in the natural surroundings.

The Norwegian project by Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter fulfills the purpose of the pavilion to be a city landmark, offering a “simple but bold” design.
The city of Edinburgh is welcoming all reactions from citizens in order to select the final design by August. Princes Street Gardens’ new face will definitely celebrate design, nature-style! Which project is your favorite? Share it with us!
