Amanda Levete: Multi-Storey Football Pitches for Central London
Amanda Levete‘s firm proposed a multi-storey football pitches for central London. The concept was named Pitch/Pitch an aims to tackle the shortage of inner-city sports fields possible in the center of the UK capital.

The “AL A” firm, gather enforces with Arup engineers and designed this marvelous project, a modular system that will include a lightweight carbon-fibre structure, able to stack five-a-side football pitches one on top of the other.

The complexes are designed to be quick and easy to install, allowing them to be constructed temporarily for events such as World Cup tournaments.

“We’ve designed this intervention to encourage the theater of the game, with spectators and would-be players drawn in as Pitch/Pitch animates the cityscape,” said Maximiliano Arrocet, AL_A director. “Pitch/Pitch allows the game to retain an urban flavor, adapting to the number of players and awkwardly shaped sites.”

These towers are intended to have a small lifespan, from just a few days to a year, that way they could be used to fill sited awaiting expansion. AL_A is currently in discussions to consider how the scheme might be funded and implemented across the city.
