Atelier AM: Edited Signature, Diverse Styles and Poetic Juxtapositions

Atelier AM was founded in 2002 by Alexandra and Michael Misczynski. Equally fluent in traditional and contemporary design styles, the firm has crafted a broad range of city and country homes, historic estates, modernist villas, seaside retreats, and glass boxes in the sky. Atelier AM’s work has been published in Architectural Digest, WSJ: The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Vogue, and Town & Country.

The duo blends minimalist architecture and classic antiques, an approach richly on display in their own Manhattan loft, that has already conquered celebrities such as Tom Cruise and Brad Grey. In little more than a decade Michael and Alexandra Misczynski have emerged as premier designers for serious art collectors and connoisseurs.

The duo’s sublime interiors, redolent of history yet in tune with the modern world, distill centuries of architecture and art. Diverse periods, styles, and materials are brought together in poetic juxtapositions: a Barnett Newman painting and classical Roman sculptures, centuries-old wood and silky stainless steel, Bronze Age artifacts and Machine Age masterworks.

But for all the bravura moments they create, the Misczynskis ply their craft with subtle discipline, a quality that has made them sought-after collaborators for preeminent modern architects such as Richard Meier and the firm Olson Kundig. When it comes to style, Alexandra and Michael Misczynski describe their signature look as “edited”, which features their luxury interior design projects, such as an apartment on Park Avenue, an “art barn” in Aspen, or a Sun Valley retreat. Their main inspiration comes from New York City and Los Angeles, considering that home is quite inspiring lately. Their key influences are Luis Barragán, Kengo Kuma, Jacques Grange, and Rose Tarlow.
