Biennale Interieur: Contemporary Design Has No Boundaries
The Biennale Interieur aims to put contemporary design for the home and interior innovations on display for a broad general public and not only for professionals – going beyond boundaries when it comes to interior design events. The uniqueness of the concept and the increase in international outreach, turnover, number of visitors, number of exhibitors and world-renowned design brands, show that there is a true need for an innovative model for design as a cultural as well as a commercial entity. Let’s get into this distinctive tradeshow!

BI starts tomorrow and goes on until the 22nd of October, in Kortrijk (Belgium). It all started exactly 50 years ago, in 1968, closely related to the motives and ideals behind the student and worker rebellions of the late sixties in France, then in Europe and the US. With a characteristic revolutionary purpose and atmosphere, BI promotes the latest contemporary forms and creativity in interior design.

Besides the common exhibitions, BI also provides you with lectures, debates and other cultural events. In 1972, the Interieur Awards were created and, since then, names like Philippe Starck, Jean Nouvel, Michael Young, Jaime Hayon or Nendo have been awarded. BI has been growing throughout the years and it’s now a reference for any design enthusiast across the world.
All too often one forgets that the difference between design and everyday furniture lies in the fact that design is a focus where the commercial play of supply and demand merges with the very latest developments across a range of sectors. Most of these take root in the cultural field – art, architecture, environmental planning, philosophy, sociology and psychology, the media, marketing, music and fashion. The proposal is made – Biennale Interieur is waiting for you!
