Danielle Colding Design: Reflecting Personalities Through Interiors

Danielle Colding Design: Reflecting Personalities Through Interiors

Danielle Colding Design is a full-service interior design firm based in New York City. Since its inception in 2006, Danielle Colding Design has taken on a wide variety of projects from high-end residential to distinctive commercial design both in the United States and abroad. Danielle’s work has been published both nationally and internationally, including her recent inclusion in Elle Decor’s The A-List for 2023.

Classic elegant spaces with comfortable, layered eclectic charm are hallmarks of Danielle Colding Design’s work. There are no “you can’t sit on that chair” spaces here. With an eye to tradition, yet still open to the inventiveness of the future, the goal is to design environments that feel like they have evolved over time. Whether it’s the incorporation of family heirlooms, a personal art collection, or objects collected on world travels, Danielle Colding Design seeks to make each space unique and reflective of those who inhabit them.

A frequent contributor to philanthropic efforts including the Ronald McDonald House and DIFFA, Danielle is committed to both the design community and giving back. She is also a regular contributor to New York’s Housing Works “Design on a Dime” event and is a member of the Black Artists and Designers Guild (BADG).

Danielle graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Cultural Anthropology and African American Studies. The study of culture, and in particular, the way we choose to live in the world, has always been intriguing and a great influence on her approach to design. Inspired by world travels and open to new ways of thinking about how we live is at the heart of the work she does. With a degree in Interior Design from FIDM, The Fashion Institute of Design in Merchandising in Los Angeles, she returned to her childhood home in New York City in 2002. Her first industry job was for the venerable firm Irvine & Fleming, where she worked for several years before going out on her own full-time in 2007.

Winner of HGTV’s “Design Star” in 2012, Danielle enjoyed the amazing roller coaster experience of bringing her approach to design to the larger TV viewing public. Similarly, “Shop This Room,” Danielle’s show for winning “Design Star,” focused on showing homeowners how to build distinctive, personalized spaces around objects or heirlooms they already loved in their homes.
