After 250 years of existance, the Bergen’s Villa Terminus Hotel was transformed by Claesson Koivisto Rune. The designer turned this historical project into a bright and contemporary inspired home that has reference to enumerous design periods. The building was originally built by a local philanthropist in the 1770s and it’s function was to serve has a shelter for families in need. Later turned into a elderly homecare.

Now, passed two and a half centuries, the Stockholm Studio had some limitations to renew the place. So instead of the renewing the outdoor look, the creator focused on making new interiors that bring together design at its best.

The now 18-room hotel features raw, clear walls complimented by colorful furniture and decor. Some of the room feature pieces designed by Claesson as well as pieces of other outstanding creators like Ilse Crawford.

The interiors show a beautiful contrast in the decor. In the hotel’s dining room the white rustic seats contrast with the copper pendant lights and flower details. In the bedrooms is visible natural materials and woven textiles.

In the hotel you can find a large amount of mid-century furniture and lighting spread aroung the living areas and a library that showcases Norwegian literature and history.

“By choosing elements of furniture, fittings and colours from different eras – an ancient finish, a mid-century modern vintage accessory here, a contemporary piece of furniture there – the concept of time has surprisingly vanished,” said the creator.

The designer also got inspiration from the work of Dutch artista Vilhelm Hammershoi that has work oftenly defined has minimal and with grey and neutral interiors. The goal for the creator was to recreate an environment of “tranquility and clear soft light” with Scandinavian vibes.

Although Claesson started is carrer in an architectural firm, is talent is to create unique furniture, lighting and home accessories.
