The Luxury Design & Craftsmanship Summit 2018 happened last week in a distinctive scenario in Oporto and, thanks to you, it had a whole different meaning. Happiness is only real when shared and this event, organized by the Covet Group, is the proof that ideas still rule the world. Companies like Topázio, Michelangelo Foundation, Vista Alegre or Boca do Lobo made it an even more immersive experience. Check the event’s highlights in this article.

During the two days of the Summit, the guests were gifted with several live showcases of several traditional arts and crafts of Portugal, namely Filigree, Tilling, Arraiolos, Renda de Bilros, Goldening, Jewellery Craft, Upholstery and Wood Work! These showcases promoted a strong bonding between the audience and the artisans and the end result was amazing!

Throughout the Summit’s first panel, The Value Of Craftsmanship For The Luxury World, we had a glimpse of the true power of craftsmanship in a world where everything is a copy of another copy. It had the contribution of Amândio Pereira (Covet Group), Nicole Segundo (Michelangelo Foundation), Fátima Santos (AORP), Luís Onofre and António Moura.

The second panel, Design As A Driving Force For Local Craftsmanship, focused on the evolution of design and interior design, which started as an architecture’s branch, an industry that was always understood as the major art. Fernando Caetano (Open Media), João Branco and Luis Sanchéz (Storytailors), Toni Grilo (Topázio), Alda Tomás (Vista Alegre), Serena Confalonieri and Francesca Merciari were all part of the panel.

Next, we had the third and last panel – Luxury Branding: A Behind The Scenes Story. What makes a luxury brand or a luxury design and how do you create one? We had all the answers thanks to Mónica Seabra-Mendes (Universidade Católica), Marco Costa (Boca do Lobo), Jorge Martins (RomBoats), Carlos Santos (Carlos Santos Shoes) and Carla Graça (Vista Alegre). The second edition of the event will take place in the wonderful city of Paris, in January of 2019! You know where you need to be!
