Fawn Galli: Embracing Creativity and Personal Expression
Fawn Galli, a distinguished New York-based interior designer, is celebrated for her eclectic and imaginative approach to creating spaces that seamlessly blend the traditional with the contemporary. Her designs are characterized by a harmonious mix of vintage and modern elements, vibrant colors, and unexpected details, resulting in interiors that are both distinctive and reflective of her clients’ unique tastes and lifestyles.
Galli’s formative years were spent in the serene landscapes of Mendocino, California, in homes devoid of electricity and plumbing. This immersion in nature fostered a profound appreciation for imagination and the natural world. Her subsequent time in Paris exposed her to the city’s rich architectural heritage and vibrant flea markets, cultivating her passion for vintage pieces and the art of blending old-world charm with contemporary aesthetics.
Upon returning to the United States, Galli honed her skills at prestigious institutions, including an Art Deco gallery and Christie’s auction house. A pivotal role at Robert A.M. Stern Architects saw her designing personal spaces for Stern himself, deepening her understanding of architecture and design. Further experience with architect Peter Marino enriched her expertise in materials and fabrics, leading to the establishment of her own firm, Fawn Galli Interiors, in 2007.
Galli’s design philosophy centers on creating spaces that tell a story, evoke emotions, and invite occupants into another world. She emphasizes the beauty of unexpected design, encouraging the use of clashing patterns, bold textures, and a fearless mix of styles to transform ordinary rooms into extraordinary experiences.
One of Galli’s renowned projects is her own Brooklyn brownstone, where she masterfully combines vintage and contemporary elements with whimsical, fairytale touches. The space features vivid green drapes, unique furnishings, and custom tropical-themed wallpaper, all set against the backdrop of the home’s historic architecture.
In 2019, Galli authored “Magical Rooms: Elements of Interior Design,” offering readers insight into her creative process and guiding principles. The book showcases eight diverse projects, illustrating how she weaves nature, surrealism, bohemian flair, sparkle, and intentional clashes into cohesive and enchanting interiors.
