South America's First Luxury Sleeper Train Takes You Through the Andes
Ever wondered how to combine luxury and adventure? We’ve got the answer: Belmond Andean Explorer, South America’s first luxury sleeper train, which has just been put in service. This first-class, modern and comfortable train will take you on a one-of-a-kind journey through the Peruvian Andes on the world’s fourth-highest rail track. I think we found a serious challenger in the exclusive luxury category! The former Orient-Express’s creation went on its maiden journey last month. Let’s learn more!

The name Belmond might not ring a bell, but the rail company’s previous name certainly will: it’s not other than the legendary Orient Express! The company developed several luxury sleeper train circuits all over the globe, and their newest, Belmond Andean Explorer, actually used to journey through Australia. The train really is a symbol of high-class exploration!

The train’s service in the Andes debuted last May. If luxury travel already offers many opportunities in Peru, this unique vehicle is the first luxury train sleeper in all of South America. A truly unique 3-day and 700-km journey awaits the 48 passengers, through stunning scenery and mythical landmarks like Lake Titicaca, with the legendary Inca capital Cusco as destination. And what’s even more amazing: the inside of the train holds as much appeal as the gorgeous outside!

That’s right, don’t forget we’re talking Orient Express: the 16-carriage train displays a curated luxury interior featuring 24 comfortable cabins, a piano lounge, a bar, an observation car at the rear, and two restaurants run by local yet internationally recognized chefs. Just look at this cabin above: can you believe you’re on a train?

The luxury interior design of the train was realized by Muza Lab, with thoughtful effort to “design journeys”. The choices were made trying to evoke several things: the Peruvian and Andean culture, Belmond and the train’s heritage, nature, romance, nostalgia, freedom and of course luxury. It also gives a reference to train partnership’s with the national operator PeruRail, with the bright blue outside color of the carriages.

As a consequence, the luxury sleeper train‘s interior features airy, light shades and noble materials such as dark wood, leather and touches of brass and gold. Locally-sourced Peruvian craft is also displayed. The ensemble feels refined, soft, genuine and nostalgic of the rail’s golden era.

Guests will enjoy high-end comfort, local gastronomical cuisine reflecting the places their journey through, fine entertainment such as live music bands, and a spa car should be added soon. All this through riding a train with an altitude above in the middle of incredible mountain scenery! Now if that’s not exclusive luxury, we don’t know what is…

What do you think of this? If you’ve got something of an Indiana Jones in you, and you want to enjoy luxury travel, but in a truly one-of-a-kind version, we’ve only got one thing to say: book you ticket to Lima right now and board the Belmond Andean Explorer!
